Interesting. It is my personal believe that all cultures are essentially "cultures of death." Because thoughts of death consume so much of our energy- mostly (seems to me) people trying to find ways to reconcile themselves to death. Religions (all of them) are a way od dealing with death. Mostly by trying to salvage some remnant of personhood from the jaws of un-being, and void. Also sexual activity as I understand it is an attempt by the individual to reproduce itself so that is's genes do not die with it- in essence another stab at salvaging a bit of life after death. Now I grant you with birth control sexual activity does not always lead to reproduction (thanks goodness- or we would be buried under tons of people) but nevertheless the drive comes from a part of our brains that hasn't factored in birth control.
