Hmm, if the stock is trading flat I wouldn't mind some dividend payments, or a DRIP :)

DOJ case is a political struggle, nothing else. The consumer/taxpayer is simply an incidental part of this giant power grab. Microsoft has billions; other people want it. They can't beat them in the market so they're resorting to other tactics. The consumer will lose. Special interests will win. Ayn Rand would be pissed.

"make money"

and that is what microsoft will do for you--nothwithstanding the recent period of under performance.

whatever is going on between the two sides is being kept confidential so it's hard to criticize management until you know what, if anything, it has been offered in negotiations. maybe like the briar patch story, microsoft knows that breaking up the company is really best for shareholder value and getting the government off its back.
"please don't break me up" says bill when he really is ready to accept breakup as a settlement.

remember sentiment can change--today was hewlett packard's turn to go from a dog to an angel.
