The purchases were months before the FON merger announcement and the two of them competed for many of the purchases each made to the point where Ebbers was quoted that they spent more than they otherwise would have needed. MDS data subscribers still total way less than 50,000 so long road to hoe and new fangled equipment still to be end user proven. Also, reach is again pretty good in large markets between FON & WCOM but far from national as BLS has major SE and many mid and small markets not acquired or planned.
