Applause for MGI as Internet play
By STEPHEN MILES
The Financial Post

MGI Software Corp. (MGI-T) , up $1.80 to a 52-week high of $12.50, on volume of 1.1 million shares.
The shares continued to climb yesterday on recent market recognition of the company's emergence as an Internet play. They have risen 78% in the past six sessions.

MGI said on Tuesday it had received a U.S. patent for its Image Server and Viewer software, which allows Internet users to closely examine goods for sale over the Internet. The technology allows MGI to be an integral part of Internet shopping possibilities, said Grant Brown, managing partner with Covington Capital Corp.

Also, on Monday MGI won the 1999 Most Valuable Product Award from PC Computing for its the PhotoSuite III-Platinum edition software.

MGI hopes to list its shares on the Nasdaq Stock Market early in the new year.
