It's a one way street...going uptown.

Dallas Federal Reserve President Robert McTeer said Thursday the role of the US central bank should not be to dampen perceived asset price bubbles.

Answering questions at an Institute for Economic Affairs annual conference, "I don't consider the goal of the Fed is to dampen down asset prices."

However, he noted that the US central bank should still be wary because of the link between consumption and rising stock market wealth. McTeer said that if the stock market were to plunge this would undoubtedly have an effect on US consumption.
