Sharif held, son turns to Clinton
Islamabad: Pakistan?s deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif was flown to Karachi amid tight security on Thursday to stand trial in an anti-terrorism court for charges of treason and hijacking.

Sharif, who was formally arrested on Wednesday night after over a month-long detention following the October 12 bloodless coup, was handed over to Karachi police by the military authorities. He is expected to be produced before the special court later in the day.

Meanwhile, Hasan Sharif, son of Nawaz Sharif, has appealed to US President Bill Clinton to help ensure ?safety and security? of his father and members of his family.

Describing the present situation in Pakistan in context of Nawaz Sharif?s safety and security as ?very dangerous?, On Thursday, the military authorities have agreed to let Sharif?s wife Kulsoom Nawaz meet him. Kulsoom has already left for Karachi from her Lahore residence, a source at the Pakistan Muslim League said.
