TELUS sells stake in shared Web sites to Bell Canada
VANCOUVER, Nov 18 (Reuters) - Canadian phone giants BCT.TELUS Communications Inc (Toronto:BTS.TO - news) and Bell Canada (Toronto:BCE.TO - news) set the stage for their upcoming Internet battle on Thursday with TELUS agreeing to sell its stake in Medialinx to Bell.

Medialinx was the national Internet company formed by Canada's phone companies under the former Stentor Alliance to develop Web portal sites they have marketed under the Sympatico logo.

TELUS is developing its own regional Web portal sites that like Sympatico will offer news, weather, sports and online services. It operates MyBC.Com in British Columbia and is expected to launch MyAlberta.Com early next year.

TELUS held a 16.6 percent stake in Medialinx and the price of the deal was not immediately disclosed. TELUS is Canada's second-largest phone company after Bell Canada, a unit of BCE Inc.
