JC: who has gotten ahead by trying to be nice with Gates in head to head competition? The Big El Zero! The only way to compete with this BSer is agressiveness and openness and McNealy knows it. I doubt if Gates has lived up to the intent of a single contract that he has signed. I think McNealy should poor it on more, be more open and more agressive.

Ask yourself, what are the greatest dangers to MSFT's hegemony? Linux (Openness), SUNW (Open Standards and the Openness of the Network), agressiveness (Caldera lawsuite, DOJ, SUNW), and the press created by openness (ala, public opinion of MSFT is waning); the writing is on the wall. How do you deal with a BSer, you expose them for what they are and they start sinking themselves or change the way they do business, and that is what McNealy is doing incredibly effectively. SUNW has nothing to gain by being nice to Gates.
