Jack ---

Thanks for the kind words. I'm cursed with an insatiable curiosity.

And, to that end have been trying to find out what's behind the current strength. Since JDSU, ORTL, MRVC, and FIBR are also strong, I'm wondering if the following report is the cause. There must be a lot of firms pouring over the statistics.

Communications Industry Researchers Issues White Paper on How New Connectors Are Changing the Economics of Fiber-to-the-X
Jump to first matched term

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Communications Industry Researchers, Inc. (CIR), a market research and consulting firm specializing in communications technology, has just issued a new White Paper discussing how the market for fiber-to-the-desk, fiber-to-the home and other "fiber-to-the-x" schemes will emerge in the near term horizon. The new White Paper, "Connectors and the New Economics of Fiber-to-the-X", is now available on CIR's Web site (http://www.cir-inc.com/whitepapers.htm).

The paper examines why the emergence of ultra-small connectors will have such significant implications for fiber-to-the-x. And in answering this question, the new CIR White Paper shows how SFF connectors are make it easier and less expensive to install fiber-to-the-x by enabling the use of existing cabling products, creating savings in real estate and increasing port densities on equipment. "Connectors and the New Economics of Fiber-to-the-X", continues with a discussion of the features of specific SFF connector products from Lucent, AMP, Siecor, 3M, etc. and how these features impact the fiber-to- the-x business.

Connectors and the New Economics of Fiber-to-the-X, concludes that the greatest impact on fiber-to-the-x will ultimately be made by those who have innovated their products beyond the basic equation of "small size equals low cost." The White Paper was authored by Lawrence Gasman, President of CIR and its Principal Analyst for Core Networking. Mr. Gasman has authored numerous reports on fiber optics markets as well as on SONET/SDH, WDM and Optical Networking. This paper was drawn from CIR's upcoming report entitled, "Fiber-to-the-X: the New Market for Fiber to the Desk, Cabinet and Home" which will be released in December. The report discusses the rapidly emerging market for fiber-to-the-home, fiber-to-the-curb, fiber-to-the-cabinet and fiber-to-the-desk.
