Actually, I thought The Wasteland ended on a somewhat positive note, but I just checked and it doesn't. It's a downer all the way! I think I was mixing it up with Ash Wednesday. But The Wasteland is filled with classical allusions and underlying Jungian themes. Does Cobain attempt that?

Cobain is indeed a case study of the modern life. He was on Ritalin since the age of 7 I believe. He got off it sometime in his adolescence, but his biochemistry was never right. So he had to alter his own biochemistry and became addicted to heroin and we know the rest of the story.

Most of these teens who have shot up schoolyards have been on some type of doctor prescribed medication such as Ritalin and Zoloft. Theres a story there somewhere.
