OT - >>You mean pushing <refresh> on qcom's real time quote doesn't qualify as doing something?<<

Frank, that's not the first time you mentioned hitting the refresh button. Be careful - you might get a callous on your finger, and now that you are self-employed you can't file a workers comp claim.

Perhaps if you are good, Aunt Nancy might get you a streaming real-time quote package for Christmas.

To the thread, from another lurker

A number of us lurkers seem to be checking in now, so I'd like to say hello to the thread. I am a newish investor, really only started learning 8 months ago. I have gotten burned in every way possible, had some fun along the way and found my way to you all a couple of months ago. At about the same time, I started subscribing to Investors Business Daily, and currently try to apply that system to some of the stocks that the thread follows.

I would like to thank you for Sycamore Networks--as a small account holder at Morgan Stanley, I was able to get 50 shares, with a better than nice pop before I could blink. (I know you don't "follow" Sycamore, but I read about it here.) Currently I am holding CTXS, GMST, CSCO and NTAP (again, thank you, I bought it 6 days ago). From my more ignorant days, I still hold a few Chinese internet plays (IMOT, XNET, CAOL), huge pop in the last couple of days, now crashing. I figure that I'll just hold them and see what happens. Wish I hadn't sold Qualcomm a while back, but feel that it's too rich for my blood at the moment.

I have no technical knowledge--am an ex-lawyer now art and antiques dealer--and would say my greatest strength is weeding through all of the junk on SI and Raging Bull and finding my way here. (BTW, I had a grandfather named Frank and my brother is named Frank, so maybe some karma.) If I feel that I can add anything, I will.

Perhaps a different perspective: I am pure baby boom generation, and often wonder where all of "our" mighty purchasing power is going to flow in the near and far term, and who will benefit. I've heard "care for the aged" and "recreation" as possible answers, and that sounds good, but I haven't found a company with gorilla or king-like characteristics in these sectors. (Yes, I have picked up a little G&K learning along the way, just am not advanced enough for the whole game.)

Thanks again, Lynn
