DALLAS, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Rare Medium Inc., the Web consulting services arm of Rare Medium Group Inc. (Nasdaq: RRRR), has been selected by Sports Habitat to create the first sports web site that fully combines the community, e-commerce, news and content in one online location. Other companies that competed for the Sports Habitat project included Razorfish and Scient.

SportsHabitat.com is the first company to leverage sports personalities to develop an online community that offers commerce and sports news content with the support and backing of an unprecedented team of hall of fame athletes representing all major sports.

"We chose Rare Medium because of their expertise. Rare Medium offers the most complete package with the ability to develop site architecture and launch strategy, as well as provide complete design capabilities. While Rare Medium focuses on building our premier web site, we can concentrate on growing our business and servicing our customers," said Matt McLaren, SportsHabitat.com vice president of Content.

Rare Medium will plan and design a web site that provides sports enthusiasts with the community features that best fit individual interests. SportsHabitat.com will officially launch in December 1999 and will feature online access to more than 90,000 unique sporting goods and memorabilia, 100 percent secure purchasing using state-of-the-art technology, online conversations with sporting legends, product reviews and testimonials, as well as the latest in-depth sporting news.

"Rare Medium is excited to craft SportsHabitat's identity and develop a web site that seamlessly integrates community commerce and original content," said Jay Baker, Rare Medium solutions partner. "SportsHabitat is redefining the sports enthusiast from a person with enthusiasm for professional athletes to a lifestyle for anyone who has a passion for sports activities."

The project will be a phased approach. After the initial launch in December, a project plan will be developed to add new features and functionality as the Web site grows.
