<<Can't hurt that SEG is skyrocketing and at Comdex said demand exceeded supply for desktop drives. Not long ago Montgomery upgraded HDD, MXTR and SEG on this basis.>>
Yes, but that would affect HDD more than DSS, and the former is only moving a little higher, along with Maxtor and WDC. SEG's larger move has to be related to Veritas, which went up to 156 and change this morning, and is currently trading around 146 and some. It just blows my mind. Seagate's stake in that company is now approaching $9 billion, not discounting capital gains taxes. And it just got two "Strong Buy" recs from two well-healed investment companies.

It would be nice Seagate they could use Veritas' stock as currency to buy out Maxtor. I don't know what restrictions are on the sale, other than the ones imposed earlier in the year when they sold some at around $50 or so, prevented them from selling anymore until this month. Has anyone heard of a company using another company's stock in a takeover? Seems like Maxtor holders might welcome a change of sector at this point. I don't know what the tax implications of such an exchange would be. It's probably a nutty idea, though, legally.
