I may or may not agree with the position you believe Bush has staked out. I don't know what his position is on the issue since I have not seen a direct quote of his remarks. Bill may be right in his interpretation of those remarks as paraphrased (or you may be) but I would not even try to speculate without seeing a direct quote. But my question about Hormel was whether or not you thought his selection made it more or less likely to positively influence relations between the two countries? I'm curious because I do believe such factors are relevant in certain instances and I believe this is one of them. The choice was VERY ill advised, IMO. I do not believe that Hormel need "promote" his sexual orientation in order to negatively affect the purpose for which we have an ambassador in the first place. JLA
