Not sure if I am missing something... but:

For the most part compact digital music players, like your old fashioned cassette walkman, do not have a speaker. They have a headphones jack.

As an OEM edig could have the players manufactured to specs to include any pair of headphones they want... I have used a pair of $150 AKG K240s with my Rio. ;) I can really hear the limitations of mp3 with those! ;)

I suppose they could incorporate this technology into something that *does* have speakers, like a jam box or home stereo component as well. But there is NO speaker that will fit into a credit card or even hockey puck sized device that will sound much better than one on say a very small clock radio.
