I also think Furniture.com is viable. Over the last year we furnished a whole house. We went shopping at various retailers, looked at the furniture, checked out furniture.com and ended up buying direct from the manufacturer. The manufacturer price was about 40% less than local retail, and furniture.com was about 30% less. Since we live in Virginia, it was simple enough and cheap enough to go to NC to check out more things and buy direct. But for most people living in other parts of the country, furniture.com will unleash great savings if they simply go to a retailer's showroom and pick out what they want -- just like they would do anyway.

Would I rather have Alta Vista? Sure. But if I end up getting furniture.com, I'm not going to cry. Except all the way to the bank.
