Paul Re <<By going to a FULL 0.18 micron process>>

Are you sure?

That is not what they said at their CC. It is a DIFFERENT process than the 650 and lower, but it is not a "full" 0.18 process like the 800 will be. They did give some further details on in and the slides are still available, I believe.

Petz - Re: "If you look at the specs, the 700 MHz Athlon uses less current than the 650 MHz Athlon. How do you suppose AMD did that?"

Engel: By going to a FULL 0.18 micron process.

Apparently you never looked here on AMD's website:
amd.com

"Available in speed grades of 700, 650, 600, 550 and 500 MHz on 0.25-micron process technology"

Re: "Hey - why does Intel's 733 MHz Coppermine dissipate only HALF the power of the 700 MHz AthWIPE ? By the way - that's 24.5 watts - Worst Case - for the 733 MHz Floppermine and 50 WATTS for the 700 MHz AthWIPE ?"

Paul - do you believe this 700MHz part is really in .18um groundrules? If so, I would think that AMD is in for
some real trouble.
