Apropos class, is it just Nokia or the entire industry that has yet to figure out how to pack a basic function like a vibrating signal in phones with lithium batteries?

For Nok's 5000 and 6000 phones in the States you have to settle for an NiMH battery with shorter life expectancy to make sure the phone doesn't sound off at business meetings, funerals, etc. Yes, you can turn down the volume on the Li-Ion phones to shrink your circumference of rudeness, but if you're past 40 and your hearing is beginning to fade the circle will still be damn big.

For other hints of fallibility, check out Nok USA's obscure instructions on assembling its simple belt clip or the weak-tea design of lots of Nok's computer monitors.

I've been long since 5/96, but am wary that reputations can suddenly and quickly out run reality. Sweat the small stuff!
