Why almost hopeless? This is gonna take a while even if PFE does succeed. If PFE is really committed to getting WLA, they'll probably have to raise their bid. Either that or hope for a WLA meltdown, which doesn't look to likely at the moment.

PMF: What in that article that you cite leads you to draw that contrary conclusion. They have no staggered board. I would think PFE will just gather enough votes to replace the board with their folks and then they will recommend the PFE offer as superior - which it is. What is the advantage to WL holders to accept a lesser $ amount from a troubled company?
The only things in the way here are execs. trying to protect their fat jobs. Why would WL shareholders want a bride that has been left at the altar twice before when they can have prettier bride with a larger dowry? JFD
