Biznews, November 22, 1999:

A widely-followed analyst, known for her bullish opinions, commented on inflation today:

"It's easy to get confused by all the statistics on inflation. It comes in so many flavors: producer, consumer, core, and so on. Here at Humbug and Queezy, we try to help investors understand the numbers behind the numbers. We've got a team of analysts who break down the inflation indexes into their component parts. Then we delete those segments that don't fit in with our core investment paradigm and basic outlook on the market. What's left, we reassemble into the FCCPI. That's the Fully Cored Consumer Price Index. There's also a FCPPI for producer prices. Let me give you an example: If you take the latest numbers from the government, and back out the portion due to gasoline, housing, tobacco, clothes, drugs, anything buyable at Walmart, and items starting with the letters B through M, then the numbers look a lot better. And what the FCCPI and FCPPI have been showing, very clearly, is that there is no inflation anywhere, and never will be. So we feel very confident in continuing to tell investors that they should be happy, not worry, and buy more stocks. That, of course, is our core investment paradigm."
