Oh, brava! Brava! A turkey tour de force. Heartwarming, and heartwrenching, all in turn. I must say that I had an image of the good woman reading ALOUD to her turklettes. Do you suppose . . . . but no, she couldn't have let them go, then, could she?

My grandparents had a farm in west Texas, and they had a turkey that was far from affectionate.

At least with regard to my cousin Joan. The turkey hated Joan from the first time he laid eyes on her. Joan would be minding her own business playing in the yard, and the turkey would catch sight of her. And would attack. Somewhere we have a picture of Joan sitting on top of the outhouse roof, the enraged turkey glaring up at her from below.
