tremendous respect for Cisco, born out of my own Digital backyard
but respect for success, not so much internal skunkwork development in breaking into new ground and bluesky

they go after niches with a vengeance by SPENDING THEIR STOCK AS CURRENCY AND PURCHASING THE COMPANIES THAT OWN THE NICHE'S GRAIL

can you say 250 acquisitions?
can you say questionable inhouse R&D for new ventures?

recently Cerent was bought in order to secure yesterday's fiberoptic technology at 10 times its cost !!!

they can afford to overspend when their size enables significant leveraged opportunities for whopping sales growth in the new niche

that strategy aint gonna happen for them in wireless
perhaps they can become an enabling supplier in the value chain

I would like to see Cisco become a strong infrastructure force in support of QCOM, not in competition
I hope it works out that way

my money is on Lucent for enabling tech
