India- IT pros spawn Bangalore Labs Copyright 1999 BUSINESS LINE November 17, 1999 Our Bureau BANGALORE, Nov. 16 A GROUP of five professionals has announced the formation of a start-up venture - Bangalore Labs - which will provide end- to-end leading edge technology-based networking services to global corporates. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. V. Natarajan (formerly Director, SAARC Region, Lucent Technologies), who will head the new venture, said the company was in the process of tying up venture capital of (USDollar) 4-8 millions. The promoters will hold a majority stake in the venture which will address a (USDollar) 24-billion networking market. About 80 per cent of its business will come from exports. An office will be opened in the US, Bangalore Labs' main market, in the next couple of months. The company will have a software development arm as well as a division focussed on training and certification. Bangalore Labs will provide both onsite network services such as design/audit and implementation and maintenance and offsite network services such as remote management. The software development arm will, apart from focussing on security solutions customisation, be involved in product development in the virtual private network (VPN) area. The beta version of the company's first product - which will enable integration of e-mail and voicemail over a common infrastructure - will be ready in about four months' time. For the training and certification division, Bangalore Labs is looking at a series of partnerships with Lucent, Nortel and Microsoft. All three divisions of Bangalore Labs will be located at the International Technology Park. Mr. T.G. Ramesh, former Country Manager (SAARC Region), Nortel Networks, will be Director, Sales and Marketing, Mr. Shriram Ramdas (formerly Business Development Manager, FedEx), will be Director Operations, Mr. Joy Nandi (former Business Manager, Internet Telecom Division SAARC Region, Nortel), will be Director, Technical, and Mr. Umesh Malhotra (formerly Business Manager, Infosys Technologies) will be Director, Development. Inspired by nature: The Bangalore Labs' logo, a peepul leaf, has been inspired by nature. "Nature embodies the most complex networks and is an inspiration in today's technology-driven world. The complex network on this leaf is symbolic of what man is attempting to recreate in an effort to connect the world," Mr. Natarajan said.
