Amateurs have no need to hedge as they are confident they know everything relevant to their market projections. Professionals are equally confident they cannot possibly know everything about future markets and therefore they hedge.

Have to agree with your post. A sure sign of a rank
amateur is someone who "cannot sleep with internet
stocks" and "never hedges their portfolio."
Professional investors are comfortable with breakout
industries in their portfolios and with appropriate
hedging such as marc ultra illustrated during the
12% correction from July through October.
