Mark,

You didn't ask me (hope I'm not butting in), but the difference between bid and best bid (and same for ask) is that on listed issues (options are "listed" issues) they are often marketed on different regional exchanges although they have one primary exchange). For example, DELL options are traded on every regional exchange, but their primary exchange is AMEX. The bid/ask would be the inside quote on the issue's primary exchange. The best bid/ask would be the inside quote (period) regardless of exchange. So if a DELL option had a better price on the Philadelphia exchange or the CBOE, it would be shown on the BB or BA differently than on the B or A. I hope this answers your question.

Thread in general. Gibbons has taken a lot of time to address in detail many of the issues that have been raised. While QC has had some server problems, the service has by and large been working well through the interim for anyone who took the time to read the many posts about servers that were working properly. Also, as it turns out (and was predicted on this thread) the problem turned out to be subnet problems around one server farm and not a QC problem per se. Nevertheless, Gibbons has taken a good deal of time (and done a great job doing a one man tech support gig on what is probably his day off). I, for one, appreciate the extra effort. I think I am speaking for many of us on this thread as well when I say, thanks again Gibbons.

Matt

Sorry about not laying it out for options, but I don't like to post information I'm not absolutely sure of. I can't say what the difference is between Bid/Best Bid and Ask/Best Ask is for OPRA options but if any answer is better than an answer with certainty, I believe it is this: Bid/Ask are the most recent quote to come across the wire whether they are the best (inside) quote or not. Best is the best bid/ask.

Our source for options data is the same as our source for all the other data except Island and Canadian stocks: S&P Comstock. The satellite-based 128K feed we get from them is deficient in their options data. We plan to correct the situation by changing to their newer 256K feed. I have no idea when this will happen, but I can say that work is in progress towards this end.

Hope this answers your questions.
