Pity the trees. I suspect Mr. Brumberg had spent most of his time being wrong about the Soviet Union, especially during the 1980's. His views are interesting in that they reveal the cognitive dissonance of his class and the attempts, futile, to rationalize their historic wrongheadedness.

The collapse of the Soviet Union was obviously a shock to his system and something from which he has yet to recover. I suspect he yearns for the good old days when his arguments were plausible. History is not his friend.
