When these products were coming out of competitors shops, the Cisco thread was filled with people saying that these new Layer 3 Switches would canabalise Cisco's routers. One of the people I respect most for her understanding of the networking field and is today someone I'm thrilled to remain in touch with said the very same thing back then. Not having a crystal ball, I don't know how the Cisco/Lucent scenario is going to play out. But historical evidence points us to think that just because a competitor comes out with a better product concept doesn't mean Cisco won't have it in place in time also. --Mike Buckley
