Michael, I'm not about to spend the next month debating all of the wars mentioned in the article, but I will comment on a couple. About a year ago, I spent a lot of time countering revisionist Jeff Jacoby's contention that Hitler rose to power in a religious vacuum, therefore Atheism was really the cause for WW2. Nice try. Anybody who cares for the truth rather than revising history will find that Hitler was heavily influenced by Martin Luther, and used Luther's ridicule of Jew's in many of his speeches. "Got Mit Uns" (God With Us) on Nazi belt buckles is hardly an Atheist slogan. The conflicts in Yugoslavia are between religious groups. Most of the people are genetically related. Religion is the only real difference. Religion is the only real difference in Ireland at this time. Who cares how it started. The Communist countries that were cited did not use Atheism to inspire their troops. I never heard of a soldier killing sombody in Madalyn O'hare or Darwin's name. Plenty of countries use God or Allah to motivate their troops to kill, because of course, they are the only righteous people. The Communist countries simply did not use religion to motivate their soldiers to kill in God's name. We have never sided with a Moslem country fighting a Christian or Jewish country, no matter what the conflict, and probably never will in the foreseeable future. Any objectively thinking person can clearly see the role that religion plays in wars. BTW, a recent poll shows 17% of the people in Minnesota agreeing with Jesse. That is really high considering the "blame those liberal Atheists" rhetoric that has been going on, and being dutifully reported by the "liberal" media lately. Nice try Michael, but facts are getting in the way of your perceived view of the world. Again, I will not spend time on this. If you search hard enough you can find people who agree with you, and thus make you feel you are right. Del
