Everyone I know would have used K.
I do not have any idea where you get the idea that m=1000.
Please point me to a reference that defines M as 1000 in monetary terms.
As far as I know, the following is accurate.
m, in monetary terms, is defined as the following:
m-- Used in bond transaction tables in newspapers to indicate a bond that has matured and is no longer drawing interest.
