CMGI-The New England Factor. My Sunday rumination.

I'm from here. The Pats lost again today. I drink Bud. In my heart of hearts, I know:

The technology future is probably in Silicon.

It's easier for the Japanese and Korean stars to get there.

The money is there. A lot of the ideas are there. The companies are there. The VCs are there. The VCs look there. Forbes reports to me from there.

Newsweek and Time talk about there. The WSJ has to kill itself to deal with the time difference and still get an eastern paper out.

The people seem so happy, warm, healthy, and (can you still say this) the women are beautiful.

Caltech is awesome and Thinking Machines went broke.

No snow. No skidding. Do people in CA really know how terrifying a skidding tractor trailer at 70 mph is?

I wouldn't fit in. I go to bed at 7 and get up at 4.

But there's something about Lawrence, Haverhill, Andover and the rest of 495 that's familiar even if it's old brick buildings. Did you know the The Boston Herald covers CMGI? The Globe wrote about DW's summer place on Martha's. Probably the best story on CMGI was published recently by Boston Magazine-it's 19 pages long. After DW rolled the #2 grenade out at COMDEX-well you can see the "Dumb Down" remark at the Boston Boys Club Girls Club gala at the Westin. After nearly 3 years of broker, swing, day and position trading, and 20 years in the markets, I now really feel comfortable with this company and its management and I believe a lot of folks here in New England do too. We think we have an eastern star. And we might just produce a bunch from MIT, BU or some wild ones from Southie wit dey used computers that rides out to Andover because they don't have the $ to fly west. Sort of like The Cars, I guess.

I think maybe I'm proud about this company.
