Satyam Infoway, a part of the Satyam group in association with Cochin Chamber of Commerce & Industry, now brings Electronic Commerce products and services to the Cochin business community through the Community EDI program. Satyam Infoway, a wholly owned subsidiary of Satyam Computer Services Ltd. is a pioneer in Electronic Commerce solutions in India. In partnership with world leaders like Sterling Commerce, USA- Open Market, USA- CompuServe Inc, USA- Satyam Infoway brings to the Indian business community a comprehensive range of Electronic Commerce products and services. Satyam Infoway currently offers Electronic Commerce services over a network spanning 9 cities, expected to go up to 25 by the year end. With Internet policy announced, Satyam Infoway will soon be ready to deliver Internet services too. Established in 1857, Cochin Chamber is one of the oldest chambers in the country having behind it a 140 year history of service to trade and industry in Kerala. It is a state level organization, locally controlled, the primary aim being to serve the region's trade and commerce and to act as an accepted focal point for trade and industry. The chamber is actively involved in matters related to International Trade, Tourism, Labour Policy and Labour Affairs, Environment, Pollution and Agro-based Industry. This venture is made possible by the joint efforts of both Satyam Infoway, which opened its 9th node at Cochin and CCCI who celebrate its 141st anniversary. The node inauguration was performed by Mr. L. Lakshman, President, ASSOCHAM, New Delhi. In his speech Mr. Lakshman expressed his appreciation for this pioneering effort made by CCCI and Satyam Infoway and wished that many Indian chambers would follow suit. He stated that such programs would benefit businesses in Kerala to improve their trading partner relationships and gain access to global 'electronic' clients, thereby improving their competitive edge. Mr. Rand Walker, International Marketing, Sterling Commerce, USA, who attended this function spoke about the relevance of EC/ EDI in today's world scenario. Mr. Srinivasagopal, Vice President, Satyam Infoway, talked about the benefits that the Cochin business community could derive from such a program. Other distinguished invitees included Mr.M.H.Ashraf, President (CCCI), Mr.Tamilselvam, Traffic Manager (Cochin Port Trust) and Mr.Manju Menon, President (Nedlloyd) Cochin. The function was well attended by more than 200 + leading business houses including the member organizations of CCCI. Electronic Commerce in simple terms is any service provided over a network that securely replaces or complements a commercial transaction or physical exchange. Traditional Electronic Commerce services include Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), Electronic Data Transfer etc? Companies around the world have used Electronic Commerce to stunning effect to achieve dramatic paybacks in terms of turnaround times and reduction on cost of operations. In a broader sense, Electronic Commerce is a whole new way of doing business- electronically. It streamlines and simplifies business documentation and enables electronic transfer of business documents thereby improving efficiency and bottomlines. The Community EDI program will help businesses in the operational front by simplifying and streamlining operations hence reduction in transaction cost which includes processing cost, paper cost, delivery cost etc? All this contributing towards reduced errors and increased cash flow. The strategic benefits associated with the program include faster trading cycle and the ability to retain existing clients, leading to improved business efficiency. This program will particularly benefit the exporters who can now file for "Certificate of Origin" (COO) and other trade related documents remotely. The program also benefits the exporters by reducing the processing time for the COO from the current 2 days to a matter of few hours. This will put CCCI ahead of other organizations offering similar services in the south. Satyam Infoway has already signed up clients to do EDI at Cochin. Many more are on the anvil.
