Stan: The poor A/D showing has, I think, kept a lot of money out of the market waiting for the sharp correction that hasn't come. Over the years I've noted that markets can rise sharply with A/D flat or declining. The A/D has been helpful to me in short-term analysis. Example: The Nasdaq makes a new high then pulls back. An ensuing rally carries it back to, or near, the recent high. I compare the A/D then vs. now to see if there's a significant divergence. It's somewhat comparable to a stock making a new high on decreasing volume; it's a yellow-warning sign that all might not be right. (Lee)
