Linus, Linux steal the Comdex show

The phrase, "you get what you pay for" doesn?t apply, Linux supporters say, claiming that Torvald?s invention is a technically superior operating system to Microsoft?s. Today, Linux is powering mostly server computers that run Internet sites. But because free is hard for technology companies to pass up, a growing number are putting Linux at the center of business computer systems. And as companies at Comdex showed, several see Linux as a way to break the Windows monopoly on the personal computer.

"Being open is what made the PC market so successful in the first place," Torvalds told a crowd at his keynote speech from Comdex. "By making it available on the Internet, everyone can play."
