The phrase "state so confidently that this was an issue for Bush" means that it was brought to his attention, that he knew of it. If he did, was the person so deeply closeted that he felt safe in overlooking it? If he were not closeted, then why not just mention the person? Invocation of a purported changed climate doesn't persuade me, since if he were already out, it would be too late. Since your response has tended to confirm to me the hypothesis that he was so deeply closeted that the matter could be ignored, unless you would like to contradict that, there is no reason to go into it further....
I am not the only one to express interest. Whether or not I am the only one to express "significant interest", I will not debate....
I doubt that Bush would appoint such a person if it were at all likely to become a political issue. I gave my grounds for agreeing with Dubya as reported. Since they had nothing to do with purported instability, or anything else you cite about heterosexuals, but have to do with political sensitivities, I am not interested in embassy gossip....
