Amy - Re: "Edit: You were just kidding, weren't you?"

I wasn't kidding - nor was I proposing it.

I just observed that CISCO could buy Intel and by virtue of its (Cisco's) reputation make this acquisition benefit Cisco shareholders AND INTEL shareholders - as well as cement Cisco as the dominant hardware manufacturer for the 21'st Internet Century.

Re: "Edit #2: Cisco spends a lot on acquisitions - I think they need to put their money into another direction - where they currently lack - that's what the $5B is probably for - their other acquisitions. You had me there for a minute there. "

Intel IS ANOTHER direction - CPUs, Network CPUs, Online Service Providers, CASH in THE BANK, Stocks in the bank, etc.

Intel COULD be taken over and a Cisco-Intel merger could prove enormously profitable for shareholders of BOTH companies.

Stranger things have happened.

Paul

John Chambers made it clear that CSCO would not acquire any companies of any significant size, preferably not a public-traded company either.

The soft issue of cultural compatibility usually makes or breaks a merger.
