Elizabeth, It all depends on the temperature profile during the process. If the gold dissolved in the interstitial rock then on cooling it will separate out as extremely small
particles that owuld require a fine grind to separate by gravity if they did not get encapsulated by sulfide during this period, and some may syaty dissolved requiring cgemical methods to extract(leaching). If it was a low heat with pressure that made a gold chip cookie out of it then the particles would be far larger and be easier to separate by gravity.
For those who do not know a metamorphosed placer deposit is one that was worn away by wind/water and settled in a sediment bed that was later buried and went under a heat/pressure metamorphosis. If it got very hot it would all run together and the gold would dissolve and precipitate out later on cooling. If not so hot then the gold chips would get baked in place and stay there when it was broken later with just a shape change to show for it.
Each deposit would be different 'cookie' as the time/temperature/pressure profiles would be highly variable.
