Oh, really?

I think most will agree that the largest movements in a stock will normally take place right after the open - up and down - unless there is intraday news released that affects it.

The gaps, up and down in the "normal" swings of the market, will normally get smaller and smaller as the day goes on - close to the close sometimes being the exception.

Therefore, IMHO and apparently in the opinion of many, many others, watching the gaps in a stock pre-market gives one a very good indication of what to expect when the market opens.

IMHO, "WRONG" is the wrong statement. :)
