MikeBuckley. Ref:GMST Based on your input and Stews, I have reached some tentative conclusions: 1)Our thread members are not patent attorneys and thus have not and can not analyze GMST's patents. Neither can I. 2)You and Stew have based much of your faith in QCOM in Stephens Report, MSFT financial committment & Faith in Henry. 3) in the long run (say 3-5 years, when broadband TV & internet make a significant pnetration into our homes, It will be possible to technologically bypass GMST patents if Mfgrs, customers and operators so wish. 4) The merged internet PC with a TV feature is quite technically feasible today--and at low prices. What is stopping it is absence of broadband ditital service to homes. 5)Based on the above, I see the value of the GMST patents (didn't you say they had 6-7 years to run)& technology as phaseing in and then phaseing out as broadband service penetrates to more and more homes. 6) Once broadband is here Internet guides and on-demand/any-time program selection should begin to displace GMST. However, there may still be time for GMST to make a lot of $ B4 broadband arrives. Further, if GMST finds ways to creat enough value to consumers/manufacturers and if they can extend and compound their patent position they might somehow secure their nitch aqgainst broadband. On the other hand, If broadband arrives earlier than expected (such as via WLL or cable Co. consolidation) GMST could be killed in birth.Time is everything. JohnG
