The house was empty last night, and like you, I was merely sitting and typing away. Wrote to you becuase you are still someone I am comfortable with here. I made the mistake of reading some of the Bush thread! ouch.
I have realized that getting involved with many of the people who now frequent SI is not good for my mental equilibrium! SO I will head back to work and Dar but just wanted to make sure all was well here with you.
I let boredom and PMS get to me last night. Stayed up way too late and am paying this morning.

I do believe we have a severe problem with our concept of ideal body type, and certainly more for women than men. But men are also getting trapped by the need to be youthful (which is a lot of the thinness issue for older women). I'm glad I don't have a daughter to worry about, but I HAVE heard both my boys express concern about getting fat, which is a hoot as they are 6 feet tall, and both under 160 and swim several miles a day. So my mom antenna went up for a while, as it is not unknown for boys to become anorexic.
I think our only point of disagreement is that I don't connect this to the Women's Movement. It's the old male-female thing. And many men want skinny, young women on their arms. I do sometimes wonder though whether there is some sexual thing going on- some weird erasing of the especially female attributes-- breasts and hips...
Hopefully, your precious daughters inherited your and K's thin genes, and you won't have them in tears because they have breasts and hips bigger than KAte Moss' at the age of 12!

As for the abortion issue-- Eeeek! I'm staying clear of that one. I know how I feel, and I don't want anyone, male or female, lecturing me on whether I'm moral, immoral or insane.

Good to see you, Michael! how are the kids, (but come tell me at DAR)!
