CBS MarketWatch Columns Updated: 11/22/99 9:04:14 AM ET Online bookseller Fatbrain.com (FATB: news, msgs) is among the tech stocks enjoying a recent run-up, and those gains may well continue. Individual Investor's director of online research Dave Sterman thinks the company is starting to attract a serious following on Wall Street. But why the big move up recently? Could be the fact that Fatbrain's been spending the last few days talking itself up to analysts. Could be investors are playing up the stock ahead of next week's earnings release. Whatever the cause, Sterman says shares of Fatbrain are poised to rise further from here. He calls the company's business model quite compelling. Its online bookstore, geared toward professional readers, has all the makings of a winner. And its new EMatter self-publishing initiative could be really big. The stock trades at a fairly low price to sales multiple, and the site predicts Fatbrain could bag big sales next year. Sterman says the stock may be in for some profit-taking over the next few days, but it should rise further as more institutions pour into the stock in the weeks to come.
