Advantest Rolls Out Direct Rambus DRAM Tester

Monday, November 22, 1999

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Advantest Corp. (6857) has developed and begun sales of a tester it developed for Direct Rambus DRAM, a next-generation memory chip technology.

The tester, designed for use on production lines, can handle up to 64 chips at once and speeds of up to 1.066GHz. Advantest has also equipped the unit with its proprietary cooling system to handle the high levels of heat generated during testing and ensure accuracy.

The tester is priced from 220-500 million yen, and the firm is targeting first-year sales of about 60 units. Advantest projects a strong market for the testers on Intel Corp.'s decision to employ Direct RDRAM technology in its next main processors.
