John, for that kind of money IBM could buy all of Gateway, and package the boxes with IBM service/software design capability. At least this thread has come down from IBM taking a 100% stake down to 30% <ggg>...

Regards,
John

John - One other point. IBM recently moved Sam Palmisano over from the Global Services group to the server group. Palmisano is regarded by IBM watchers as Gerstner's 'heir apparent'. He is credited with the success of Global Services. Keep in mind that he moved from a much larger and 'visible' group to a smaller group. Seems unlikely that he would have been moved to 'gut' the group. In any event, it will be interesting to see what they do.

Regards,
John

PS - This guy was in high demand recently when CEO jobs opened up at other major firms. His name was mentioned in both the CPQ and HWP searches. Why stay at IBM to run it's server group???
