OT Kash, this one is for your Dell portfolio! ____________________________________________________________ Dell to Sell Research in Motion's Handheld Device Waterloo, Ontario, Nov. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Research in Motion Ltd. said Dell Computer Corp., the No. 1 U.S. maker of personal computers, will sell the Canadian company's wireless e-mail device from next week. Dell will sell Waterloo, Ontario-based RIM's BlackBerry electronic organizer to its customers starting Nov. 30. Research in Motion surged as much as C$14.60 (US$10) to C$92 before falling to C$77, C$3.40 below its opening price, at the end of Toronto trading. ``This is an incredibly significant deal for Research in Motion,' said Howard Lis, an analyst at Griffiths McBurney & Partners in Toronto. ``A Dell deal really puts a 'tier-one' stamp of approval on the company and its technology.' The Intel 386-based BlackBerry wireless device includes Microsoft Corp.'s Exchange software, enabling users to send and receive e-mail over the Internet without using telephone lines. Small handheld units made by RIM are expected to rival personal computers as a way to gain access to the Internet. Lis said that relationship could lead to Dell buying a stake in the Canadian company. Griffiths McBurney is raising its target price on the stock from C$90 to above C$100, he added. ``What's the value of wirelessly enabling Dell Computer and their products?' Lis said. ``The Fortune 1000 (companies) buy from Dell. They're the best distribution channel one could dream of.' Lis said the afternoon drop in the company's share price means sellers were being shortsighted. ``This creates a buying opportunity, as far as I'm concerned,' he said. Research In Motion products are already sold by large wireless companies such as BellSouth Corp. and SkyTel Communications Inc. Lis said he believes Research in Motion is in talks to create an alliance with a major Internet service provider, such as America Online Inc., the world's largest. Among stocks on Canada's TSE 300 index, only Chinese- character software maker ZI Corp. has beaten RIM's more than sixfold increase this year.
