BigBull, S&P 1994 is not a counterexample because it didn't triple in the previous five years, in fact it didn't even double. It increased from about 300 to 500, as this chart shows:

This kind of increase is sustainable. But then over next five years it went from a low of around 400 to over 1400, and history shows this kind of run is NOT sustainable.
