Verisign Partners With INTERSAT SA to Provide Internet Trust Services To
Greece

Greece's Leading Telecom Provider Will Join VeriSign's Global Affiliate Network
to Meet Customer Demands for Secure B2B and B2C E-Commerce Services

December 3, 1999 11:00 AM
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- VeriSign, Inc. VRSN , the
leading provider of Internet trust services, today announced a partnership with
INTERSAT SA, a high-tech Greek company in the fields of telecommunications,
Internet and digital video broadcasting services, to provide digital certificate
and public key infrastructure (PKI) services in Greece, Cyprus (Greek part) and
the South Eastern Europe countries (including Hungary, Czech Republic,
Albania, Bosnia-Hezergovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, F.Y.R. of Macedonia, Romania,
Slovenia, Slovakia, Ukraine and Yugoslavia). Under terms of the agreement,
INTERSAT SA will become a member of VeriSign's Global Affiliate Network, an
expanding group of international service providers which utilize common
technology, operating practices and infrastructure to deliver interoperable
trust services over the Internet.
Digital certificates and PKI can be used to secure a wide range of
business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) applications over
the Internet. Acting as electronic credentials, digital certificates support
identity verification, communication privacy and transaction confirmation in
on-line merchant, financial service, supply-chain management and virtual
private network (VPN) environments.

"INTERSAT SA operates in one of the world's most evolving markets for
Internet usage over both wired and wireless connections," said Richard
Yanowitch, executive vice president of marketing for VeriSign. "We believe that
INTERSAT SA's local presence, well-respected brand and e-commerce
application expertise coupled with VeriSign's scalable technology platform and
market-leading services will provide Greece with trusted e-commerce
solutions."

"The recent growth of e-commerce in Greece and the volume of Internet trust
services needed to secure such transactions, led us to partner with VeriSign,"
said Stavros Karaguloglou, vice chairman & general manager of INTERSAT SA.
"VeriSign's technology is field-tested, and offers proven security,
interoperability, scalability and ease of use."

VeriSign Affiliates combine VeriSign's global Internet expertise with their own
e-commerce services to serve customers in their local language, currency, and
legal system. Key e-commerce applications that require Internet trust services
include employee intranets, supply chain extranets, virtual private networks
(VPNs), and large scale e-commerce applications such as e-banking,
e-brokerage, and e-healthcare.

As a member of the VeriSign Affiliate Network, INTERSAT SA will offer
VeriSign's Internet trust services, including:

-- VeriSign OnSite(SM) -- a managed Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) service
for enterprises, government agencies, and e-communities. -- VeriSign Go
Secure! -- rapid deployment services that secure applications such as
Microsoft Exchange, SAP and VPNs for e-commerce. -- Digital Certificate
Services for Web sites and Individuals -- certificates to secure transactions
and communications for individual e-businesses and consumers.

In addition to its locally-operated services, INTERSAT SA will be able to
leverage VeriSign's global trust infrastructure, including:

-- The VeriSign Trust Network (VTN) -- the world's largest network of
globally-interoperable digital certificates providing a common set of technology,
infrastructure, and practices to establish a universal foundation of trust across
international boundaries. -- Authorized Training Centers and Business
Readiness Services -- knowledge transfer services that facilitate the rapid
deployment of large-scale Internet trust services.
