He I am just the messenger. I have held CSCO since 1994 and it is my second largest holding. I will believe until JC says I shouldn't <g>

Gilder contends that bandwidth via photonics doubles 4 times faster than Moore's law electronic processors, thereby shifting the action to optical networks. He thinks Cerent SONET is great but will be outdone by Ciena's product which will shift toward the optical layer because of engineering I can not begin to understand.

This type of development is worth keeping our eye on, wouldn't you say.

Fiber optics will not supplant routing - they operate at different layers

Do fibre switches work at the physical or data link layer? Is it possible to create a layer-3 fibre optic router? Thanks,

Justin

P.S. I spoke with a Nortel Networks college recruiter today at a job fair. When I asked about how the culture has changed at Bay since the merger, she admitted that the merger has been a difficult one for everyone.
