The concept of the dead guy seeding a biosphere has been "borrowed" from Stephen Baxter's Titan, a book that started well enough but imo foundered on some BS science. As well as a contempt for the long-term chances for mankind to be a going concern.
The Galactics backdrop takes heavily from David Brin.
And my main character, of course, has Analyze This written all over him.
