I don't work in the phone industry, so I have no specific recommendation. But from an UI standpoint, Q should structure its software in such a way that it's easy to plug-in new features such as voice recognition dialing, advanced language input methods, customizable GPS features, support for more graphic rich LCD, adding more ringing tones, adding buttons with specially defined features, etc....

Some of these are technology that can be acquired or licensed, some are things that Q software engineers need work on. The latter part is much easier said than done. This is where the sales and marketing guys need to talk to the customers and based on the feedback to tell the software engineers how flexible the software should be and what optional features should have. My experience tells me that software customer support can be more resource demanding than ASIC design for selling chips such as Q's, which has a system processor in there.
