Potential Entrust/IDX end user? From PC Week, March 1, 1999: "James Eaton, network specialist at Chevron Canada, is planning to replace the company's SecurID token authentication technology from Security Dynamics Technologies Inc. with digital certificates from Entrust Technologies Inc. The Entrust technologies will protect a new virtual private network that will link Chevron Canada with key suppliers and resale agents. "'The nice benefit of using encryption based on a digital certificate is that it gives you a secure tunnel,' said Eaton, in Vancouver, British Columbia. 'SecurID has strong authentication, but [once a user gets into a server], there is still the potential for information to be captured.' "Within the next few months, Eaton will finish testing Entrust PKI and will hook up thousands of users with digital certificates to enhance authentication methods, he said. The Entrust certificates will eventually work in conjunction with biometric technology. An individual will have to sweep a finger through a reader before a transaction is placed to verify a digital signature. "'You can't really stop at digital signatures with a password,' Eaton said. 'If you're dealing with sensitive information, even digital signatures may not be adequate you may need biometrics to take that level of security even higher.'
