Ahhaha, reading your assessment reminds me of how truly anachronistic the FCC's efforts will prove to be in the longer term, since they are now introducing (or are failing to introduce, depending on your views) measures which are far too little far too late. I say this in light of the technology-enabled competition which now exists, without their help for the most part, I might add. We needn't really get into how they 'lag' behind technology again, need we?

The one area in which I do give the Fed credit, to some uncharacteristic degree, was their realization and accession last year to the fact that they can no longer regulate technologies which they can't define in universally accepted terms, like they could put their arms around circuit switching.

They demonstrated this human quality about a year and a half ago when they agreed to leave many parts of the Internet space alone, including VoIP. Let's see how long that lasts. I suspect that the ITU, backed my the traditional vendors, will put an end to that soon, as they continue to make VoIP look more and more like the PSTN, each day.
